![]() ![]() Kohl's gift is the single largest private donation in University history. Herb Kohl (D-Wisconsin), a 1956 graduate of the UW-Madison, who donated $25 million to the project. In addition to the competitive floor, the Kohl Center houses state-of-the-art practice facilities, the Fetzer Academic Center, athletic training and rehabilitation facilities, strength and conditioning training areas, newly remodeled locker rooms and coaching staff offices. From computers to lounge areas to audio/video systems, the Kohl Center provides everything under one roof. Areas specific to the UW programs were designed by the Wisconsin coaches with the programs in mind. Since opening, the building has held up as one of the finest on-campus facilities in all of collegiate athletics. ![]() “Get involved in your school and your community with topics that you’re interested in,” Kaur said.The Kohl Center, opened in 1998, is the home for the UW men's, and women's basketball teams, and the men's hockey teams. ![]() I want to help kids who don’t have that support and opportunity.”Īs someone who is highly involved in her school and community, Kaur offered a closing piece of advice to younger students in Loudoun. “I was blessed to be born in a country where there were a lot of opportunities and parents that were supportive of every decision I made. “This scholarship is going to make those dreams come true,” Kaur said. She hopes to use her education to start non-profit organizations that help spread sports and technology to underprivileged kids throughout the United States and, hopefully, the globe. Kaur plans to study information systems and cybersecurity at George Mason University starting this fall – where she will also compete for the Patriots’ Division I track & field team. “There are too many instances where people don’t get help because they don’t think it’s there or they’re afraid I wanted to break that barrier and help those who were suffering.” Woodgrove senior Puneet Kaur was selected as one of 20 Foot Locker Scholar Athletes Program scholarship recipients for the 2017 graduating class. I wanted to create something so that people would understand the impact a person has and that every life is important,” Kaur said. “I’ve lost a few friends to suicide and some close friends of mine deal with mental illness on a daily basis. On top of her athletic pursuits as a member of the varsity basketball and track & field teams at Woodgrove, Kaur started a school-wide walk and club to raise awareness about mental health issues. “I am heavily involved throughout my school community as well as the local community.” ![]() “I think what made me stand out from other applicants was balancing so many activities,” Kaur said. A four-year member of the Woodgrove girls basketball and track & field programs, Puneet Kaur will compete for the George Mason University’s track & field team next spring.
